Google Search Integration Helps Online Shoppers Find Merch …

The partnership enables online shoppers to view available inventory in nearby stores, placing distance, price and availability of items in Google Search results, and is intended to support local businesses

NearSt, a London-based retail technology startup, is working with Google to improve the fluidity between online and in-store shopping, helping customers this holiday season more easily preview and locate online merchandise in shops in their vicinity.

Shoppers can Google products and see where the item is in stock at any local stores, with info including current price and distance from the shoppers’ current locations. NearSt originally offered this same service on its own platform and app, but hoped to help more businesses by teaming up with one of the world’s largest search engines.

This tool is designed to be especially helpful for small businesses, which have to compete with bigger stores that already have more advanced web tools. “NearSt has some fantastic technology which we are leveraging to make it as easy to shop locally as it is online,” Nathalie Walton, global head of local shopping, Google Shopping, tells RetailTimes. “It gives small retailers the ability to compete effectively in the online world, without needing any of the technical and financial firepower of their online competitors.”
