Equinix Sheds Lights On Its Partnership With Oracle Cloud

Cloud adoption is moving faster than expected, making the fast and secure delivery of data traffic more important than ever. But, as Equinix’s Robert Blackburn points out, not all infrastructure and networks are equipped for that.

“Most of us as users of SaaS or other parts of the cloud are used to using it as part of a web browser, but most of the enterprise use of the cloud is large data sets that are going to be moving across that network. That creates a lot of problems across the public internet. The enterprise finds that it’s very slow, you can’t get the job done in a reasonable amount of time, and it costs more than it should,” said Blackburn, Global Managing Director of the Oracle Strategic Alliance. Equinix is the world’s largest data operator, headquartered in Redwood City, Calif.

A joint solution combining Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect via Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric seeks to solve those challenges. The interconnection solution complements Oracle’s next-generation autonomous database and cloud platform services by delivering direct and secure low-latency, high-bandwidth connectivity to Oracle Cloud. The result is a multi-cloud infrastructure that can support growing amounts of data and workload traffic on a global scale.

“Our partnership with Oracle is focused on helping Oracle Cloud infrastructure their Gen2 cloud product be available for their enterprise customers, so they can move data into that cloud and then have access to it in a very cost-effective, highly scalable, secure manner,” said Blackburn.

Interconnected solutions have grown in their value to enterprises as a multi-cloud strategy becomes the common approach for business. Gartner research finds that as much as 70 percent enterprises will take on a multi-cloud strategy by 2019, a 10 percent jump from 2018. This, as Oracle Cloud CEO Mark Hurd predicts that by 2025 the number of corporate-owned data centers will have decreased by 80 percent as businesses shift their IT infrastructures to the cloud.

In an interview with CRNtv, Blackburn discussed a case study involving the supply chain management operator HAVI, which has seen performance improvement of up to 30 percent as a result of the Oracle /Equinix solution.
